"A line is a dot that went for a walk." Paul Klee

Sketch-an-Etch is my first MFA project at Columbus College of Art and Design. For the semester long project I will be mixing Intaglio and Screen-printing techniques to create a unique edition of prints. This visual blog will document my path to the finish.

QR codes

After reading and thinking about QR codes, I wish they were included in our Art Criticism and Theory Text. Personally, I can not get into the reading because the lack of visual excitement on the page! The codes provide endless amounts of easily obtainable visual information. I watched the video about Jules Verne's novel containing the codes, which I found interesting because I haven't seen this in a text yet. I can't say I would use it in every book, but it does add several dimensions to a simple story. Historical and informative writing I see benefiting the most, as in our art theory text. It would help to look at websites with visual examples (pictures, videos, interviews, maps, timelines) the author is discussing and also be able to personally comment or see other reader's opinions on the text. The internet is so massive and endless, I see why these were created, it is a nice way to filter all the information out there. I can only see QR codes becoming more popular as more people have smart phones and participate in uploading data to the web. They could add so much to an art history textbook, while keeping the cost of printing and paper down. I can not get into the digital books because their lack of character and feel, but QR codes can add so much excitement to words on a page. You get the tactile experience of a book with the endless visuals of the web.

This is the QR code created for my blog Panda Mouse Prints, which has lots of my artwork uploaded, for your visual entertainment!
